Spec Market is a searchable archive of intellectual property available for option and/or representation. With contents ranging from screenplays to books to short stories and life rights, Spec Market offers professionals a unique opportunity to discover new material and new artists in a customized, secure environment. Spec Market is a service of Baseline StudioSystems, the premier online destination for entertainment industry professionals.
WHERE DOES SPEC MARKET GET THESE PROJECTS?
The Spec Market is a sister site to ScriptShark.com, the Internet’s oldest and most trusted script coverage services firm. In addition to material deemed exceptional and selected for inclusion by the Script Shark Story Department, Spec Market accepts submissions from partner firms, schools and organizations such as the University of Southern California Writing Division and Trigger Street Productions. Soon, writers and other creative producers will also have the opportunity to promote their material to the Baseline StudioSystems community.
HOW DO I ACCESS THE SPEC MARKET?
Access to Spec Market is free for producers, reps and other creative professionals who have registered with Baseline StudioSystems. Admittance to Spec Market is subject to verification of the applicant’s professional affiliation. If you are already a registered Baseline StudioSystems member, click here to apply for access.
HOW DO I GET A HOLD OF A PROJECT OR WRITER THAT INTERESTS ME?
Every posting has a "Contact" button. Click this button to email the writer or their representative. A text box for release form language is provided, and the Story Department strongly suggests all requests for material include a copy of your company’s release. To limit unwanted communication, the Story Department recommends you provide the writer with an email address created specifically for submissions; neither your account ID nor personal email address will be presented unless you choose to list it.
YOU PROVIDE A BROWSING OPTION CALLED “BROWSE BY RATING.” WHAT IS THIS?
Spec Market employs a rating system that makes sorting by sponsor or other material distinction both quick and easy. For example, clicking on the USC “rating” will list all material submitted to Spec Market via USC, which is one of Spec Market’s many Content Partners. For material submitted to Spec Market via ScriptShark, three dedicated ratings are used: “Executive Market”, “ScriptShark Approved” and “Success Story.” A full listing of ratings can be found here.
